The Obama administration is poised to announce a decision, as early as Friday, on where the 9/11 conspirators and five other detainees will be tried, a senior military official and other sources with knowledge of the planning told Fox News.

A "mixture" of venues are planned for the detainees now being held at the U.S. facility at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, the senior military official told Fox News. Another source said the handful of detainees would be tried in military commissions, though the time and location is still unknown.

Sources also told Fox News that details will be announced regarding the case of Abd al-Nashiri, the alleged planner of the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 sailors in 2000. Two legal sources describe Nashiri as being in poor physical condition.

The Obama administration promised the military judges at Guantanamo that a decision would be made by Nov. 16. A justice department spokesman insisted to Fox News late Thursday afternoon that no final decision had been made.

President Obama vowed to close Guantanamo by the end of his first year in office, fueling an intense debate in Congress about what to do with the remaining detainees and whether to move them to facilities in the United States.
