The Obama administration began Monday morning with harsh words for North Korea over its nuclear test as President Obama denounced the action as "reckless" and a "blatant violation of international law. In an impromptu Rose Garden appearance, Mr. Obama said it's clear that with this latest nuclear underground test, North Korea is not keeping its previous pledge to cease its nuclear program. As a result, Mr. Obama said, "the United States and the international community must take action in response."
He noted that not only South Korea and Japan, but Russia and China had all quickly denounced the test.
And the President's top military advisor, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Michael Mullen told Fox News, that the test, "speaks to [the North Korean's] growing belligerence."
The U.S. Geological Survey says today's test resulted in a seismic event that registered at 4.7 on the Richter scale.
The last North Korean missile launch -- just last month -- resulted in a unanimous condemnation from the United Nations Security Council. In retaliation, the North Koreans walked out on the six party negotiations.
The UN Security Council is expected to meet Monday afternoon in an emergency session.
