Secretary of Defense Robert Gates just announced that production on new Marine 1 helicopters is ending. The helos currently in development are over budget, so there will be a new bidding process for them. There is ample service life left in the helos used now, Mr. Gates said, "so we have time to do this".
President Obama supports this move, having previously said that the helo he has "seems perfectly adequate" to him.
