Huntsman Collects $4.1 Million in First Days

Washington – Former Utah Gov. Jon Huntsman has collected $4.1 million in the first days of his presidential bid, with less than half of it coming from the candidate's own deep pockets.

Huntsman aides say they have raised that sum during the fundraising quarter that ends Thursday. The aides spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the numbers. They are not obligated to file paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission this quarter because the campaign is so new.

Other candidates face a July 15 deadline.

Huntsman, who worked for three Republican administrations before becoming President Barack Obama's ambassador to China, has spent much of his time meeting with donors since entering the race on June 21. He has said he doesn't want to completely fund his campaign with his own money.
