June 18: Nine-month-old Jenna Eigsti takes a nap on a pile of freshly filled sandbags as her mother, Starla Eigsti, background center, and other Amish Mennonites work to fill sandbags at the Oakley-Lindsay Center in Quincy, Ill. Volunteers from throughout the region were at the center to fill sandbags as part of an ongoing effort to raise levees in anticipation of what was to be near-record crests of the Mississippi River. Eigsti said she and her family left Sedalia, Mo., at 4 a.m. and traveled to Canton, Mo., to aid workers there before heading to Quincy to assist other volunteers.
