LYON, France – LYON, France (AP) — A security driver accused of stealing euro11.6 million (now worth $14.7 million) from a French bank says he planned the heist because he was angry at his boss.
Tony Musulin captured nationwide attention because of the huge sum, and because he turned himself in a few days later after a massive manhunt. He was hailed as an antihero for taking on the banking establishment in times of economic crisis.
His trial opened in Lyon on Tuesday. He testified that he was "someone normal," but "I had a problem with my boss and I made him pay this way."
Police found euro9.1 million (now worth $11.6 million) of the missing cash in a garage. The rest has never turned up and Musulin said Tuesday he doesn't know where it is.
