GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan authorities have arrested a man they suspect of being a leading drug trafficker in the region.
Interior Minister Mauricio Lopez Bonilla said Tuesday that Horst Walter Overdick had been arrested, but did not have details. He says the arrest occurred in the community of San Lucas, just west of the Guatemalan capital.
Known as "El Tigre," or "The Tiger," Overdick is suspected of being one of the most active drug traffickers in Guatemala, which borders on Mexico.
Guatemalan Judge Miguel Angel Galvez recently told The Associated Press that Overdick was believed to operate in the country's Alta Verapaz region and had brought the notorious Zetas gang of Mexico into Guatemala.
