SANAA, Yemen – Military officials say an airstrike has hit a vehicle carrying suspected militants traveling in eastern Yemen, killing eight in the third such strike this week.
The officials said the attack Friday targeted the vehicle in Hadramawt in eastern Yemen. One official said the attack was carried out by a U.S. drone. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to the press.
The U.S. considers the local al-Qaida branch the world's most active and has used drones in the past to go after its members. Seven other suspected militants have been killed in airstrikes in the area since Tuesday.
Yemen's government has intensified its campaign against militant groups, backed by U.S. advice and logistical support. Militants have carried out several attacks in retaliation.
