A 20-year-old man who was shot in the head is the latest protester to die as mounting unrest in Venezuela enters its second month.

Hecder Lugo died Friday after being shot in the industrial city of Valencia, which was the scene of massive protests and looting Thursday.

At least 38 deaths have been reported by various sources in five weeks of anti-government protests, though the public prosecutor puts the tally at 37. Another 700 people have been injured.

Valencia was quiet Friday afternoon, with many businesses burned out and garbage strewn through empty streets. Soldiers arrested of dozens of people they accused of participating in the violence.

The opposition is calling for presidential elections to unseat President Nicolas Maduro. Protesters are expected to march in Caracas on Saturday.
