Iraqi authorities say attacks have killed 13 people, including off-duty soldiers who were on their way home.

A police official said the deadliest attack took place Tuesday night, when gunmen ambushed a mini-bus carrying off-duty soldiers near the town of Suleiman Beg, killing eight soldiers and wounding four others.

The town is about 150 kilometers (90 miles) north of Baghdad.

Earlier, a car bomb explosion in a town just north of Baghdad killed two people.

Another car bomb exploded in a residential area in the city of Hillah, killing three people and wounding eight others. Hillah is about 95 kilometers (60 miles) south of Baghdad.

Hospital officials confirmed the casualty figures. All officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to release the information to reporters.
