CULIACAN, Mexico – The handcuffed bodies of two Spanish men have been found with bullet wounds in a car dumped in a canal in the Mexican state of Sinaloa.
The prosecutor's office says the victims are 58-year-old Fernando Carmona and 50-year-old Jose Montoya, both natives of Spain who had been living in Guadalajara, Mexico.
Prosecutor Julio Cesar Romanillo said the two men went missing a week ago after they left a hotel in the city of Culiacan, capital of Sinaloa. Their bodies were found Saturday in a sedan's backseat in the nearby town of El Limon de los Ramos.
Sinaloa is home to Mexico's most powerful drug cartel. Gangs often abandon their victims in cars, but authorities have not said whether the attack is drug related.
