Chris Young hit a solo home run, Ian Kennedy recorded nine strikeouts over six innings and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres, 3-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series at Petco Park.

Kennedy (2-0) settled in nicely after allowing three consecutive hits to start the first inning. The right-hander gave up only two more hits over the rest of his outing while improving to 6-0 against San Diego in his career.

Aaron Hill and Jason Kubel knocked in the other runs for the Diamondbacks, who bounced back from their first loss of the season.

Anthony Bass started in place of the injured Dustin Moseley and limited Arizona to a run on three hits and two walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings.
