NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Yankees fortified their bullpen by signing free agent left-handed reliever Pedro Feliciano to a two-year contract, the club said Monday.

Feliciano, 34, also agreed to a club option for the 2013 season. Financial terms were not disclosed for the former New York Mets set-up man.

A workhorse out of the bullpen, Feliciano has led Major League Baseball in relief outings in each of the last three seasons, and his 266 appearances over that stretch was a record for most games pitched over any three-year span.

Feliciano, particularly effective against left-handed batters, owns a 22-19 career record with four saves and a 3.31 earned run average in 459 relief appearances over eight seasons with the Mets.

His Mets run was broken up by one season in Japan, where he pitched for the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks of the Pacific League in 2005, appearing in 37 games and going 3-2 with a 3.89 ERA.
