CULLOWHEE, N.C. – Richie Gordon and Mike Williams scored 12 points each and Western Carolina's defense held off Furman in a 65-41 win on Thursday night.
The Catamounts (9-12, 5-5 Southern Conference) held Furman to 26.3 percent shooting (15 of 56), including 2 of 21 from 3-point range (9.5 percent).
Western Carolina, which had 10 players score, led 34-16 at halftime, after holding the Paladins (15-6, 7-3) to just 6-of-24 shooting (25 percent) in the first half.
The Catamounts opened the second half on a 12-6 run to lead 46-22 on Gordon's dunk with 15:23 left in the game. Western Carolina stretched its lead to as many as 32, 59-27, on Gordon's free throws with 7:30 remaining.
Western Carolina shot 48.1 percent from the field (26 of 54), while holding Furman at bay. The Paladins had just four assists, compared to 12 turnovers.
Amu Saaka was Furman's leading scorer with seven points.
