Robin van Persie completed his transfer from Arsenal to Manchester United on Friday and signed a four-year contract.

Van Persie, 29, spent the last eight years with Arsenal, but departs for a fee reported to be around $38 million. He led the English Premier League with 30 goals last season, three more than new teammate Wayne Rooney.

"I'm proud to be here," Van Persie said, "and looking forward to achieving big things with Manchester United.

"Arsenal are a big club but for me it's a big challenge to get to know players here. Manchester United breathe football. When I have to make hard decisions, I always listen to little boy inside me and what he wants.

"That little boy was screaming for United."

He started his career with Feyenoord, scoring 15 goals in 61 appearances from 2001-04. He joined Arsenal in 2004, and enjoyed a great stint with the Gunners from 2004-12 with 96 goals in 194 league appearances.

Van Persie has 29 goals in 68 appearances for the Netherlands.
