Van Basten to take charge of Heerenveen

Former Netherlands international year contract.

Van Basten will take over for Ron Jans, who has already confirmed that he will leave the club in the summer despite Heerenveen sitting in third place in the Eredivisie table and just five points from the summit.

After a standout career as a player that included two European Cups with AC Milan and a European Championship with the Netherlands in 1988, Van Basten took charge of the Oranje in 2004 and guided the team to the 2006 World Cup as well as Euro 2008.

He then took charge of Ajax for one season in 2009 and will be returning to the sidelines for the first time since his stint in Amsterdam.
