Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - PGA TOUR - CROWNE PLAZA INVITATIONAL AT COLONIAL, Colonial Country Club, Ft. Worth, Texas - The PGA Tour returns to the Lone Star State for a quick Texas two step.
First up is the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. Adam Scott earned a playoff win over Jason Dufner at Colonial last year days after the Australian took over the top spot in the world rankings.
Scott and Dufner trailed the four third-round leaders by two strokes entering the final round. The pair closed with 4-under 66s to end one shot ahead of Freddie Jacobson and Nicholas Thompson.
After pars on the first playoff hole and birdies in the second extra hole, Scott made it two in a row as he birdied the third playoff hole to earn the win.
The victory was Scott's 11th on the PGA Tour. The comeback win for Scott made it six straight Colonial winners that have come from behind in the final round.
Scott returns to defend his title against a field that includes Masters champion Jordan Spieth, Jimmy Walker, Patrick Reed, Ian Poulter and Paul Casey. Poulter and Casey are skipping the European Tour's flagship event to play Colonial.
Spieth, a Dallas resident, is still searching for a victory in his home state. Walker beat Spieth by four in San Antonio earlier this year.
Scott looks to join Ben Hogan as the only two players to have won this event in back-to-back years.
Golf Channel has coverage all four days. On Saturday and Sunday, Golf Channel will have early action before handing off to CBS.
The second part of the Texas two step is next week with the AT&T Byron Nelson, where Brendon Todd earned his first tour win last year.
EUROPEAN TOUR
BMW PGA CHAMPIONSHIP, Wentworth Club, Surrey, England - The European Tour has its flagship event this week with the BMW PGA Championship.
World No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who cruised to victory on the PGA Tour last week, fired a 66 in the final round last year. He beat Shane Lowry by one stroke after starting the day seven shots off of Thomas Bjorn's third-round lead.
Bjorn stumbled to a 75 in the final round to slide into a share of third.
The win for McIlroy was his sixth on the European Tour and his first since the end of the 2012 season.
Among those in the field this week are former European Ryder Cup stars Justin Rose, Martin Kaymer, Victor Dubuisson, Jamie Donaldson, Graeme McDowell and Lee Westwood. American Brooks Koepka will be competing for the second time.
Golf Channel will have extensive coverage of all four rounds.
The European Tour heads to Northern Ireland next week for the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, where Mikko Ilonen beat Edoardo Molinari by one stroke in 2014. McIlroy will act as tournament host at Royal County Down.
CHAMPIONS TOUR
SENIOR PGA CHAMPIONSHIP, Pete Dye Course at French Lick, French Lick, Indiana - The Champions Tour has its second straight major this week with the Senior PGA Championship.
Colin Montgomerie rolled to a 4-stroke win last year over Tom Watson. The win was the Scotsman's first official title in the United States and his first major championship crown.
Montgomerie was the first Scotsman to win the title since 1947. Monty's win was the third straight by an international player, marking the first time in event history that happened.
In his PGA Tour days, Montgomerie was runner up five times in major championships, including three times at the U.S. Open.
The field this week includes 28 of the top 30 from the money list, with only Kenny Perry and Miguel Angel Jimenez skipping the championship.
Golf Channel has coverage the first two days, then NBC will take over for the final two rounds.
The Champions Tour takes next week off before returning the following week with the Principal Charity Classic, where Tom Pernice, Jr. was a playoff winner last year.
