After three days of competition, swimmers broke 12 world records, 37 Pan American and 99 American records at the 2012 U.S. Paralympics Swimming Trials in Bismarck, N.D., June 14-16. Jessica Long (Baltimore, Md.) broke five world records en route to her nomination for the 2012 U.S. Paralympic Team. Overall, 34 swimmers earned nominations to compete in London.
FIELD TRIP
Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev.) won the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials for BMX on June 16 in Chula Vista, Calif., to earn an automatic nomination to the U.S. Olympic Team. Fields posted the second-most points in the multi-heat competition to qualify for the four-man final. Nic Long (Lakeside, Calif.) and Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn.) also earned nominations to represent Team USA at the London Games.
BASKETBALL
The U.S. Men's U18 Team rolled to multiple high-scoring victories during the FIBA Americas U18 Championship preliminary play in Sao Sebastiao Dos Paraiso, Brazil. The team defeated Mexico, 110-59, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, 105-42.
CANOE/KAYAK
Micki Reeves (Grand Junction, Colo.) scored a top-10 finish in the women's canoe final at Slalom World Cup No. 2 in Pau, France, June 15-17.
CYCLING
After winning two of the nine stages, development rider Joe Dombrowski (Marshall, Va.) captured victory at the Giro Ciclistico d'Italia on June 17.
DIVING
David Boudia (Noblesville, Ind.) and Nick McCrory (Chapel Hill, N.C.) jumped out to an early lead at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Diving on June 17 in Federal Way, Wash. The duo holds a lead of more than 100 points in the men's synchronized 10-meter preliminaries and semifinals. Kelci Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) and Abby Johnston (Upper Arlington, Ohio) hold a narrow lead in the women's 3-meter synchro contest.
EQUESTRIAN
Steffen Peters (San Diego, Calif.), riding Legolas 92, captured his sixth USEF National Grand Prix Dressage Championship on June 16 in Gladstone, N.J.
Rich Fellers (Willsonville, Ore.) captured victory at the fourth and final USEF Observation Event for the U.S. Show Jumping Team on June 16 in Lexington, Ky.
FENCING
Mariel Zagunis (Beaverton, Ore.) and Race Imboden (Brooklyn, N.Y.) defended their 2011 Pan American Championship titles with gold-medal wins on June 17 in Cancun, Mexico. Maya Lawrence (Teaneck, N.J.) also scored a first-place finish at the championships.
JUDO
Hannah Martin (Glenville, N.Y.) went 3-1 to capture a world cup silver medal on June 17 in Buenos Aires. The win marked her third world cup medal this year.
MODERN PENTATHLON
Margaux Isaksen (Fayetteville, Ark.) captured a fifth-place finish at the Kremlin Cup on June 16 in Moscow, Russia. She finished with a total of 5,292 points.
ROWING
Five rowers secured their spots in London with wins at the 2012 Olympic Trials - Rowing in West Windsor, N.J. Sara Hendershot (West Simsbury, Conn.) and Sarah Zelenka (Itasca, Ill.) came from behind to take the women's pair event, while Ken Jurkowski (New Fairfield, Conn.) bested the men's single sculls field. Silas Stafford (Santa Rosa, Calif.) and Tom Peszek (Farmington Hills, Mich.) also received nominations in the men's pair event.
SHOOTING
Jason Parker made his fourth U.S. Olympic Team by winning the U.S. Olympic Trials in men's 50-meter rifle three position on June 11 in Fort Benning, Ga.
SOCCER
The U.S. Women's National Team defeated defending world cup champion Japan, 4-1, at the Volvo Winners Cup on June 18 in Halmstad, Sweden. The team also defeated Sweden, 3-1, earlier in the week.
The U.S. Men's National Team tied Guatemala, 1-1, to maintain its Group A lead at the 2014 FIFA World Cup Qualifying on June 12 in Guatemala City.
SOFTBALL
The USA Women's National Team and the USA Women's Elite Team each took one game of a doubleheader exhibition on June 14 in Summersville, W. Va. The elite team won the first game, 5-2, while the national team scored a shutout victory in the second game, 9-0.
TENNIS
Melanie Oudin (Marietta, Ga.) won her first WTA tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win in the Aegon Classic on June 18 in Birmingham, England.
TRACK & FIELD
Abdi Abdirahman (Tucson, Ariz.) and Kara Goucher (Portland, Ore.) won the men's and women's titles at the USA Half Marathon Championships on June 16 in Duluth, Minn.
TRIATHLON
Team USA swept the gold medals at the Banyoles ITU Triathlon World Cup on June 17 in Spain. Gwen Jorgensen (Milwaukee, Wis.) earned her second career world cup win, while Lukas Verzbicas (Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored the victory in his world cup debut.
VOLLEYBALL
Beach volleyball duo Jake Gibb (Bountiful, Utah) and Sean Rosenthal (Redondo Beach, Calif.) scored their first grand slam victory with a win in Rome on June 17. Women's duo Jennifer Kessy (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) and April Ross (Costa Mesa, Calif.) won the bronze medal.
The U.S. Women's National Team rallied from a first set loss to defeat Brazil and improve to a perfect 6-0 at the FIVB World Grand Prix on June 17 in Sao Bernardo, Brazil.
The U.S. Men's National Team scored a win over host France during FIVB World League pool play on June 17 in Lyon, France. The U.S. leads Pool C with a 4-2 record.
WATER POLO
The U.S. Men's National Team brought home a fourth-place finish at the FINA World League Super Final on June 17 in Almaty, Kazakhstan. The team posted wins over Australia, China and Kazakhstan before falling to Italy, 7-6, in the bronze-medal match.
WRESTLING
Team USA placed second overall at the Ziolkowski International on June 17 in Siedice, Poland. Individually, Logan Stieber (Monroeville, Ohio), J.D. Bergman (Columbus, Ohio), Obe Blanc (Lely, Fla.) and Tervel Dlagnev (Arlington, Texas) scored gold medals for the U.S.
A pair of U.S. wrestlers won gold medals at the Ljubomir Ivanovic Gedza International on June 16 in Belgrade, Serbia. Dremiel Byers (Colorado Springs, Colo.) won gold at 120kg, while Spenser Mango (St. Louis, Mo.) earned first place at 55kg. As a team, the U.S. accumulated 65 points for second place.
