Houston has signed free agent Joe Mays after the linebacker was suspended and fined last season for a hit on Texans quarterback Matt Schaub.

The Texans confirmed the signing on Tuesday.

Mays knocked Schaub's helmet off and the star QB lost a chunk of his left ear on the play during Houston's 31-25 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sept. 23. Mays was fined $50,000 and suspended for one game.

KRIV-TV of Houston was the first to report the signing. Mays told the station that he and Schaub talked Monday and made peace. Schaub told the station the hit was "water under the bridge."
