New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira is expected to be unavailable to play for 10-14 days after an MRI exam Monday showed irritation of his Grade 1 left calf strain.

Teixeira aggravated the calf injury during Saturday's 5-4 loss to Baltimore.

The switch-hitter returned to the lineup Saturday after a 10-game absence, then hurt himself again trying to beat out a double-play grounder in the ninth inning. He made a head-first slide on the play and was called out, ending the game, although replays clearly showed he was safe. A run would have scored to tie the game.

Teixeira is hitting .255 in 120 games with 23 homers and 81 runs batted in this season.
