Manchester, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Adam Lallana was credited with a late equalizer that saw Manchester United drop two points in a 1-1 draw with Southampton at Old Trafford on Saturday.

United had taken the lead in the 26th minute when Wayne Rooney latched on to Adnan Januzaj's brilliant through ball. Artur Boruc denied Rooney's first attempt, but Robin van Persie stormed into the box to collect the rebound and sweep the loose ball into the back of the net.

The home side came close to doubling its advantage on several occasions as Rooney rattled a shot off the crossbar in the 28th minute while van Persie saw his glancing header in the 63rd minute come back into play off of the frame, and they were left to rue those misses as Southampton leveled the score at the death.

A late corner kick for the Saints was delivered into a very dangerous area in the box. United failed to deal with the cross and paid the price as the ball trickled over the goal line to deny the Red Devils a vital home victory. Lallana claimed the goal, though it was difficult to discern who got the final touch.

United climbs to 11 points on the season to remain four points back of Southampton.

Liverpool, England - Everton handed Hull City its first league defeat since Aug. 31 as the Toffees ran out to a 2-1 win at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Swansea City 4, Sunderland 0

Swansea, Wales - Gus Poyet was handed a harsh start to life in charge of Sunderland as his side suffered a disappointing 4-0 defeat to Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium on Saturday.

After a scoreless opening period, Swansea took the lead thanks to three goals in the span of seven minutes.

Jonathan De Guzman scored just moments after Phil Bardsley's own goal broke the deadlock in the 57th minute, while Wilfried Bony converted a penalty in the 64th minute before Steven Fletcher's own goal 10 minutes from time completed a miserable touchline debut for Poyet.
