Schalke signed goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall to a new three-year contract Friday.

Unnerstall, 22, joined Schalke from Munster in 2008 and had a contract through the 2012-13 season. The new deal runs through the 2014-15 season.

Last season, Unnerstall played 29 matches in all competitions. He featured 21 times in the Bundesliga, five times in the Champions League and three times in the Pokal Cup.

Unnerstall took over the starting job after an injury to Ralf Fahrmann, but he too suffered an injury and gave away to Timo Hildebrand. All three return for the new season, and will all challenge for the starting role.
