Modena, Italy (SportsNetwork.com) - Nicola Sansone netted a first-half double on Sunday as Sassuolo rolled to a 4-1 rout of 10-man Parma at the Stadio Citta del Tricolore.
Much has been made of Parma's off-the-field struggles as the club has been docked points in the table for its inability to pay player wages and financial instability. and that instability translates on the field as Sansone opened the scoring for the hosts after 24 minutes.
Parma pulled level two minutes later through Andi Lila, but Sansone gave his club the lead again in the 36th minute with his second goal of the day.
Things then became more difficult for Parma as Antonio Mirante was shown a straight red card and sent off by referee Angelo Cervellera, reducing the visitors to 10 men.
Sassuolo then seized control of the match with the extra man on the field as Domenico Berardi conveted a penalty kick following the red card and Simone Missiroli added a fourth goal 25 minutes from time to wrap up all three points in style.
The result sees Sassuolo improve to 32 points from 27 matches, while Parma remains rooted to the foot of the table with just nine points.
Also in Serie A on Sunday, Alberto Paloschi netted a pair of goals to lead Chievo to a 2-0 win over Genoa at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris, while Luca Toni scored on either side of the break to help Hellas Verona claim a 2-0 victory against Napoli at the Stadio M.A. Bentegodi.
Atalanta and Udinese played to a scoreless draw at the Stadio Atleti Azzurri d'Italia, while Sunday's final fixture saw Rodrigo Palacio and Gregoire Defrel trade goals as Cesena and Inter Milan played to a 1-1 draw.
