Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Texas Rangers designated outfielder Carlos Peguero for assignment on Wednesday to make room for pitcher Phil Klein, who was called up to make his first big league start against the Red Sox.

Klein opened the season with Texas and had a 7.71 ERA in six relief appearances before he was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock on April 14. The right-hander made his major league debut with the Rangers in 2014, going 1-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 17 games.

Peguero was hitting .186 with four homers and nine RBI in 30 games this season. Texas has 10 days to trade, release, or outright Peguero to the minor leagues.

The Rangers also outrighted pitcher Stolmy Pimentel to Round Rock after he cleared waivers.
