New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels says assistant coaches are progressing slowly in teaching their new, young players.

None of the wide receivers who caught passes for the Patriots last season are on the team in training camp. Of the 12 wide receivers on the active roster, six are rookies.

McDaniels says the assistant coaches have to tell themselves to start from the beginning and progress slowly because they can't assume anything. He says the receivers are doing a good job but there's still a long way to go.

Last year's top four wide receivers were Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd, Julian Edelman and Deion Branch. Edelman is the only one of them still on the team and he may start the season on the physically unable to perform list.
