San Diego Padres third baseman Chase Headley has been named the National League Player of the Week for the period ending August 12.

Headley hit .333 while driving in a National League-best 11 runs and tying for the league lead for home runs with three. In addition, his .750 slugging percentage placed him third among all Senior Circuit batters and his 18 total bases and six runs scored tied him for third-best.

His best performance of the past week came on Friday in Pittsburgh as his 2- for-4 night, which included a pair of homers and five RBI, stoked a 9-8 decision over the playoff-hopeful Pirates.

Other players considered for the award included Giants catcher Buster Posey, Pirates pitcher Erik Bedard, Reds reliever Aroldis Chapman and Brewers starter Yovani Gallardo.
