Baltimore, MD (SportsNetwork.com) - Baltimore Orioles catcher Ryan Lavarnway was designated for assignment on Tuesday.

Lavarnway appeared to find a home in December after the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Chicago Cubs. He had been designated for assignment by the Red Sox in November, then claimed by the Dodgers in December before being waived again a week later and claimed by the Cubs.

The 27-year-old journeyman had appeared in 10 games for the Orioles this season and was 3-for-28 with a double and a run scored.

Baltimore recalled catcher Steve Clevenger from Triple-A Norfolk to fill the roster spot. Clevenger was batting .352 in 27 games for Norfolk.

Caleb Joseph has been the primary catcher for the Orioles, who are still awaiting the return of Matt Wieters as he continues his recovery from Tommy John surgery performed last June.
