Mourinho enjoys winning start in Chelsea return

London, England – Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho claimed three points in his return to the sidelines at Stamford Bridge on Sunday thanks to first-half goals from Oscar and Frank Lampard in a 2-0 Chelsea victory over Hull City.

During his first spell at Chelsea, which spanned just over two seasons, Mourinho never lost a league game at Stamford Bridge, and that mark wasn't in jeopardy on Sunday as the Blues seized control of the game early on.

Fernando Torres drew a penalty kick after just six minutes when he was fouled by Hull goalkeeper Allan McGregor. However, McGregor redeemed himself by saving Lampard's spot kick.

Chelsea found the breakthrough after 13 minutes with a nice piece of play that saw Kevin De Bruyne slide an inch-perfect pass to Oscar inside the area, and the Brazilian prodded the ball underneath McGregor with his first touch.

Lampard then atoned for his penalty miss by smashing home a free kick midway through the opening half from 35 yards, and the lead was never seriously threatened in the second 45 minutes.

Tottenham 1, Crystal Palace 0

London, England - Roberto Soldado celebrated his Tottenham debut with a 50th- minute penalty kick to lift Spurs to a 1-0 victory over Premier League newcomers Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Sunday.

Playing without the influential Gareth Bale, who was ruled out because of a foot injury, Tottenham needed a new face to step forward. And Soldado, who was signed for a club record fee from Valencia over the summer, delivered.

Palace held firm in the first half, but went behind five minutes after the break when defender Dean Moxey handled Aaron Lennon's cross inside his own penalty area.

Soldado stepped up and sent goalkeeper Julian Speroni the wrong way to separate the teams, although Tottenham needed a fine double save from its own netminder, Hugo Lloris, to deny Kagisho Dikgacoi in the closing minutes.
