An early strike from Souleymane Camara was all Montpellier needed to extend the gap atop Ligue 1 as the leaders claimed a 1-0 victory over Valenciennes at the Stade de la Mosson on Saturday.

Camara netted after just four minutes to lead the home side all three points, opening up a five-point gap ahead of second-place PSG. The Parisians will look to restore their two-point deficit on Sunday when they host lowly Sochaux on Sunday.

Montpellier had numerous chances to grab an insurance goal in the second half, but a staunch defensive display sealed the win as Camara's tally held up as the lone goal of the affair.

Montpellier improves to 69 points on the season while Valenciennes' two straight losses leaves the club on 37 points, just four points above the relegation zone.

Lille remains third in the table, keeping pace with Montpellier, while Dijon sits just one point clear of danger after three straight losses.

Evian 2, Toulouse 1

Annecy, France - Toulouse was unable to build upon its impressive three-goal defeat of Lyon last time out as it suffered a disappointing 2-1 loss to Evian at the Parc des Sports on Saturday.

Two goals from Aldo Angoula ultimately did Toulouse in with the first coming 10 minutes into the affair. Ben Yedder leveled for Toulouse in the 72nd minute, but Angoula provided the game-winner just three minutes later.

Evian has won two straight to improve to 45 points, eight points shy of Toulouse.

Rennes 1, Brest 0

Brest, France - Rennes claimed a third straight victory on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat of Brest on the back of penalty kick from Julien Feret at the Stade Francis-Le Ble.

Brest remains in relegation trouble, sitting tied with Sochaux on 33 points but narrowly avoiding the drop zone on goal differential.

Bordeaux 2, Marseille 1

Bordeaux, France - Marseille was doomed to another match without a win as it fell to Bordeaux, 2-1, at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Saturday.
