Philadelphia, PA – Phil Mickelson rallied to win the claret jug for the first time in his career on Sunday and that helped him move to No. 2 in this week's world golf rankings.
The British Open win came a week after he won the Scottish Open, with the titles he has climbed from eighth to fifth, and now from fifth to second in the rankings.
Tiger Woods remained the No. 1 golfer, and he is 4.01 average points ahead of Mickelson. After the season's third major, there was plenty of movement in the top 20 in the rankings.
Rory McIlroy dipped one to third, while Masters winner Adam Scott held steady in fourth. Justin Rose, the U.S. Open champion, slid two spots to fifth and Matt Kuchar was sixth again this week.
Brandt Snedeker and Graeme McDowell exchanged places with the American up to seventh. Luke Donald stayed at nine and was followed by Lee Westwood, who was up two to 10th despite losing the British Open.
Steve Stricker and Louis Oosthuizen were both down one to 11th and 12th. Charl Schwartzel inched up one to 13th and Ian Poulter jumped six to No. 14.
Last year's British Open winner Ernie Els was down three to 15th, Sergio Garcia dipped one to 16th and Keegan Bradley inched up one to 17th. Bubba Watson and Jason Day both fell two to 18th and 19th, while British Open runner-up Henrik Stenson jumped 10 places to round out the top 20.
