Memphis, TN (SportsNetwork.com) - Fifth seed Marinko Matosevic and seventh seed Michal Przysiezny came up opening-round losers Monday at the U.S. National Indoor Championships.
Czech Jiri Vesely upended the Australian Matosevic 6-3, 6-2 at The Racquet Club of Memphis.
Poland's Przysiezny took the first set, but then dropped the next two in a 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 loss to American Michael Russell.
The only other match of the day saw American Tim Smyczek take a 6-7, (5-7), 6-4, 6-3 victory over Australian wild card Nick Kyrgios.
This week's top seed is reigning champion Kei Nishikori, who beat this week's second seed, Feliciano Lopez, in last year's Memphis finale.
