PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Buffalo Bills coach Doug Marrone has no preconceptions in his approach to the team's quarterback competition.
Rookie first-round pick E.J. Manuel might have the raw potential, and veteran free-agent addition Kevin Kolb the benefit of six seasons of NFL experience. Marrone says the two will have to settle things on the field, because he'll base his decision on which one gives the Bills the best chance to win now and not later.
It's a competition that will resume Sunday night, when the Bills open training camp with their first practice in suburban Rochester.
The plan is to have Manuel and Kolb evenly split practice time for the indefinite future before Marrone says it will become apparent to him and the entire team which one has earned the job.
