George Beamon scored 14 points and Michael Alvarado made three free throws in the final minute as Manhattan ended a 15-game losing streak by defeating Niagara 51-49 on Monday.

The Jaspers (3-15, 1-6 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) also won for the first time in their last nine games against the Purple Eagles (4-15, 1-6).

Niagara grabbed its only lead of the second half when Marvin Jordan's 3-pointer made it 43-42 with 3:32 remaining. Malcolm Lemmons' layup increased the margin to 45-42.

A 3-pointer by Kidani Brutus and Rhamel Brown's layup at the 1:17 mark put Manhattan ahead to stay, 47-45.

Alvarado's free throw with 51 seconds left made it 48-45 and he added two more to make it 50-47 at the 0:26 mark after a layup by Anthony Nelson, who led Niagara with 14 points.

Brown had 10 rebounds for Manhattan, which had a 42-24 advantage on the boards.
