Mainz tops Stuttgart to end eight-game skid

Anthony Ujah scored two goals in the second match winless skid with a 3-1 win over Stuttgart on Friday at Coface Arena in the Bundesliga.

Germany international Cacau handed Stuttgart the lead early in the second half but Ujah responded 4 minutes later in the 54th, Andreas Ivanschitz scored from the penalty spot in the 61st, and Ujah completed his brace in the 65th.

Mainz lost Eugen Polanski to a red card in the 83rd, but Francisco Rodriguez was sent off in stoppage time for Stuttgart as both sides ended with 10 men.

Mainz last won on Aug. 13, 2-1 over Freiburg, and climbed five points off the bottom of the standings. Stuttgart had its four-match unbeaten streak snapped, as it missed a chance to climb to second ahead of the weekend fixtures.
