Allen Park, MI (SportsNetwork.com) - After letting Ndamukong Suh go via free agency, the Detroit Lions landed another All-Pro defensive lineman in a trade Tuesday.
The Lions acquired defensive tackle Haloti Ngata from the Baltimore Ravens, who will receive fourth and fifth-round draft choices while sending Detroit a seventh-round pick.
The Lions' website said the deal is pending a physical.
The Ravens freed up some much-needed salary cap space in the deal. They traded Ngata after failing to work out an extension for the 31-year-old, who spent his first nine NFL seasons with the team and was named an All-Pro in 2010 and 2011 seasons.
Ngata will cost the Lions less than Suh, who can reportedly earn up to $114 million over the life of the massive six-year deal he signed with the Miami Dolphins, which made him the highest paid defensive player ever.
Ngata was suspended for four games last season over a positive drug test for Adderall, which he admitted taking, saying he "made a mistake."
The five-time Pro Bowl selection had 31 tackles, two sacks and a career high- tying two interceptions in 12 games. He has 445 tackles, 25 1/2 sacks and five interceptions since he was drafted by the Ravens No. 12 overall in 2006.
