John Brown had 14 points and 10 rebounds and Liberty held off High Point 66-60 on Thursday night.

Brown, whose double-double was his ninth of the season, hit three straight layups to break a 50-50 tie and help the Flames (12-7, 6-1 Big South Conference) take their fifth win in six games.

Both teams started slowly, with Liberty leading 5-0 after 4:13 and the Panthers scoring five points in the first eight minutes.

Trailing 32-25 at halftime, High Point (5-10, 2-4) took its first lead at 47-46 with 4:36 left on a Du'Vaughn Maxwell tip-in.

After Liberty regained the edge, Nick Barbour, who scored 17 of his 21 points in the second half, hit a 3 to tie it at 50 with 3:30 left.

Brown's three layups in a 1:25 span made it 56-50 with 1:46 to go. Barbour scored on a three-point play, but the Panthers could get no closer and lost their seventh straight game.
