Jon Lester pitched seven strong innings and run home run to lift the Boston Red Sox to a 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in the first game of a day/night doubleheader on Tuesday.

Lester (12-6) gave up just one run and three hits and retired 12 straight batters at one point to snap a two-start losing streak.

Josh Reddick and Mike Aviles scored and provided the other two hits for the Red Sox, who came into Tuesday's action having lost three of their last four.

Evan Longoria drove in Desmond Jennings in the first inning for the only run for the Rays, who have dropped two straight after a five-game winning streak. James Shields (11-10) pitched the whole game and gave up three runs on three hits with a walk and six strikeouts.

This game was a makeup of an April 13 rainout and the night game will begin at 7:10 p.m. (et).
