The Los Angeles Kings signed veteran defenseman Robyn Regehr, an in-season acquisition, to a two-year contract extension on Thursday.

The news of Regehr's deal comes two days after the defending Stanley Cup champions prevailed in Game 7 against the San Jose Sharks to reach the Western Conference finals.

Los Angeles obtained Regehr, 33, in a trade with Buffalo on April 1. He has recorded one assist and provided a physical presence during the Kings' current playoff run.

Regehr was scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

For his career, the 1998 first-round pick has totaled 30 goals and 142 assists in 943 regular-season games with Calgary, Buffalo and Los Angeles. He has added three goals and 16 points in 54 career postseason contests.

The West finals get underway Saturday in Chicago.
