Montpellier, France – Montpellier's poor start to the Ligue 1 campaign continued on Saturday as the club suffered a 3-2 home defeat against Evian thanks to a hat trick from Saber Khelifa.
Montpellier was bidding to win its third match of the season after lifting the league title last term, but Khelifa had the visitors ahead on the half-hour mark.
Marco Estrada and Souleymane Camara scored goals six minutes apart for Montpellier to put the hosts in front at halftime as Estrada scored on a free kick while Camara's header from a Ait Fana cross made it 2-1.
The hosts had chances to add to their lead in the second half but failed to capitalize, and Khelifa took advantage.
The Tunisia striker leveled the contest after being set up by Cedric Barbosa in the 62nd minute, and he helped Evian seal its second win of the season in the 89th by curling home his third goal of the match.
Bastia 3, Troyes 2
Furiani, France - Bastia snapped a five-game winless streak on Saturday as Toifilou Maoulida scored in the 88th minute to beat nine-man Troyes, 3-2.
Marcos Dos Santos scored a goal in each half for Troyes, while an own goal from Rincon and a strike from Anthony Modeste had Bastia on level terms with 40 minutes to play.
However, red cards to both Fabrice N'Sakala and Xavier Thiago left Troyes to play the final 20 minutes with nine men, allowing Maoulida to net the winning goal a few minutes before the final whistle.
Lille 2, Ajaccio 0
Lille, France - Lille won for the first time in seven Ligue 1 games on Saturday as the club notched a 2-0 win at home against Ajaccio.
Nolan Roux broke the scoreless deadlock a few minutes before halftime, while Ryan Mendes doubled the advantage early in the second half.
Lille moves into the top half of the league with the win, while Ajaccio drops to 13th with its third loss of the campaign.
Reims 3, Nice 1
Reims, France - A pair of goals from Gaetan Courtet in the final three minutes lifted Reims to a 3-1 win over Nice on Saturday, extending the club's unbeaten run to six games.
The lone goal of the first half belonged to Reims as Diego found the net after 16 minutes.
Dario Cvitanich equalized shortly after the hour mark, but Courtet snatched three points for his side with some late-game heroics.
Courtet came off the bench in the 53rd minute and he took advantage of a poor clearance in the 87th minute to put his side before sealing the win with another goal in stoppage time that came from a long throw-in courtesy of Antoine Devaux.
Rennes 1, Sochaux 0
Montbeliard, France - A seventh-minute goal from Mevlut Erding was enough to see Rennes past Sochaux, 1-0, on Saturday at the Stade Bonal.
Sochaux has lost back-to-back games and drops into the bottom three, while Rennes is unbeaten in four matches in all competitions.
It didn't take long for Rennes to go in front when Kevin Theophile's cross was met by the head of Erding, who redirected the ball off the post and into the net.
Sochaux nearly equalized 10 minutes later when Roy Contout's shot came back off the post, but it was not going to be Sochaux's night and the home side was unable to find a way past goalkeeper Benoit Costil.
Toulouse 2, Valenciennes 2
Toulouse, France - Toulouse rallied to claim a 2-2 draw against Valenciennes on Saturday as Adrien Regattin netted the equalizer in the 90th minute.
Valenciennes jumped out to a two-goal lead in the opening 15 minutes as Foued Kadir and Carlos Sanchez both found the back of the net.
But Ben Yedder pulled Toulouse to within a goal in the 56th minute when a corner kick was headed into his path by Franck Tabanou, allowing Yedder to nod it home from close range.
The equalizer then came in the 90th minute when a ball from Emmanuel Riviere released Regattin down the middle and his slotted his shot past goalkeeper Nicolas Penneteau.
