Keep on throwin': SMU will make its American Conference debut meshing two big passing plans

DALLAS – SMU is going to throw itself into the American Athletic Conference.

With Hal Mumme now the passing coordinator for sixth-year Mustangs coach June Jones, the offensive game plan should be obvious. Mumme says if there's a vote among the two, it will be 2-0 for a pass.

Quarterback Garrett Gilbert says it looks like a lot of fun on paper.

SMU has been to four consecutive bowl games for the only time in school history. In the final season of the Bowl Championship Series, the Mustangs are finally in one of the six conferences with automatic entry into the biggest games in January.

The Mustangs open their season Aug. 30 against Texas Tech.
