Cory Johnson scored 26 points and Valparaiso broke away in the second half to whip Youngstown State 79-55 on Friday night.

Brandon Wood added 17 points and Howard Little 10 for the Crusaders (11-5, 3-1 Horizon), who outscored Youngstown State 45-26 in the second half as they beat the Penguins for the 11th straight time.

Blake Allen scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead the Penguins (6-8, 1-4), who were denied their first road victory. Damian Eargle added 15 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

Valparaiso's advantages were 54.2 percent to 33.9 percent in shooting and 47-24 in rebounding, led by Ryan Broekhoff's 10 boards.

After a 20-20 tie, the Penguins trailed 34-29 at the break.

The Crusaders led 44-33 with 16:20 to play before a 10-0 run made it 54-33 with 13:02 left and sealed the outcome.
