The New York Jets have placed fullback Lex Hilliard on injured reserve.

Hilliard, who played in 12 games for the Jets last year, will have season- ending surgery to repair a fractured shoulder blade, according to ProFootballTalk.com. He suffered the injury during practice on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old Hilliard didn't play in either of the first two preseason games because of a rib injury.

Hilliard has carried the ball 48 times for 163 yards and two touchdowns in 62 career games with the Dolphins, Patriots and Jets. The Montana product has also caught 30 passes for 233 yards and two scores.

Rookie Tommy Bohanon is now in line to win the starting fullback job.

New York also signed wide receiver Marcus Rucker.
