Conway, AR (SportsNetwork.com) - A broken ankle suffered in a game Saturday has ended the college career of Central Arkansas quarterback Wynrick Smothers.

Smothers, a fifth-year senior, suffered the injury during the Bears' 31-0 win over Nebraska-Kearney.

The Walter Payton Award nominee was the Southland Conference's 2012 offensive player of the year as a redshirt junior.

This season, Smothers had thrown for 1,816 yards and eight touchdowns with nine interceptions for the 20th-ranked Bears (3-3). He also rushed for 133 yards and two touchdowns.

Head coach Clint Conque has yet to name a new starting quarterback. Ryan Howard, Taylor Reed and Jacoby Walker all received snaps during Saturday's game, and Howard and Reed both attempted multiple passes.
