Thunder Bay, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Wes Homan carded a 4-under 68 on Saturday to claim a 2-stroke lead after three rounds of the Staal Foundation Open.
Homan finished 54 holes at Whitewater Golf Club at 16-under-par 200. He is seeking his first career win on the PGA Tour Canada.
Greg Eason, who shared the second-round lead with Homan, managed a 2-under 70 to fall into second place at minus-14.
Jeffrey Corr (67) is alone in third at 11-under, while Matthew Smith (66) and Andrew Evans (69) are tied for fourth at 9-under 207.
Homan and Eason entered the third round tied at 12-under and traded pars over the first two holes before Homan converted his birdie effort at the third to claim the outright lead.
Homan later eagled the seventh to jump to 15-under, but Eason birdied the seventh to remain within two of the lead.
Eason, however, gave that shot right back with a bogey at the eighth to fall back to minus-12 and hand Homan a 3-shot advantage.
Homan bogeyed the 12th to fall back to 14-under, but after he and Eason both birdied the 14th to remain two shots apart, Homan picked up another shot at the 16th to regain his 3-shot lead at minus-16.
As Homan parred his final two holes to end there, Eason birdied the 17th reach 14-under and cut Homan's advantage to two heading into the final round.
NOTES: Homan had missed the cut in three of his previous six starts this season, but he also shared fourth place at the Bayview Place Island Savings Open ... Eason is also searching for his first win on tour. Like Homan, Eason has a top-10 finish this season, ending in a tie for fifth at the Syncrude Boreal Open.
