VANCOUVER -- Henrik Sedin didn't accomplish much Wednesday night, but he got everything he wanted.
Zero goals, zero assists, zero shots, zero penalty minutes and an even-rating in 22:22. It's not exactly a game-breaking performance from the reigning Hart Trophy winner, but the Canucks' captain is now three wins away from his first Stanley Cup.
Raffi Torres broke a scoreless tie with 18.5 seconds left in the third period to give Sedin and the Canucks the only thing that mattered to them -- a 1-0 victory against the Boston Bruins in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Final at Rogers Arena.
Sedin was held in check by the Bruins' defensive duo of Zdeno Chara and Dennis Seidenberg for most of the night. There were a few nice passes from the playoff leader in points (21) and assists (19), but on this night, it was all about his supporting cast.
Following the game, Sedin talked about the tightly contested affair with the Bruins.
Q: You've faced a lot of hot goaltenders during the playoffs. Were you starting to think you were never going to get one past Tim Thomas tonight?
Sedin: No. Never, really. We knew if we stuck with it, we were going to get a goal. (Roberto Luongo) played great on the other side as well. This is the way we knew it was going to be. We stuck with it.
Q: How about the performance of your third and fourth lines?
Sedin: They've been great throughout the playoffs and now tonight. They come up with the goals at the right time. That's what you need in the playoffs.
Q: It wasn't pretty, but it is just important to get the first one any way you can?
Sedin: It's huge. It's not fun being down 1-0. We're going to treat the next game as a must-win as well. But it feels good to be up.
Q: How about the power play? It went 0-for-6, something it hadn't done at all in the playoffs.
Sedin: I don't know. It's tough because they let us move the puck on the outside. We didn't take the shots when we could and we didn't have the movement we wanted either. I think it's up to us to do a better job. I don't think it was particularly anything they did.
Q: How did you take over during the third period?
Sedin: I think the last half of the game we took over. We kept rolling, kept coming at them. We know the other team is going to wear down.
