Borussia Dortmund confirmed Tuesday that young attacking starlet Mario Gotze has been ruled out for six to eight weeks as it was determined that the midfielder's groin injury is more serious than first thought.

Gotze has been diagnosed with a pubic bone stress injury by the club's doctor as well as Germany's national team doctor and has been instructed to rest for two weeks before starting rehab.

The 19-year-old is one of Europe's hottest properties and has been rumored to be on the radar of several big clubs. He has recorded five goals in 14 Bundesliga games this season and has notched 12 caps for Germany.

Gotze is expected to be back for Borussia Dortmund's match at Augsburg in mid- March.
