Third seed Julia Goerges of Germany and No. 6 seed Shahar Peer of Israel went by way of upset Tuesday at the inaugural $220,000 Texas Tennis Open, a final U.S. Open tuneup.

Goerges fell to Great Britain's Elena Baltacha, 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 (7-2); while Sweden's Johanna Larsson defeated Peer, 6-2, 6-4 in the second round on the hardcourts at Hilton DFW Lakes Hotel.

In two other second-round encounters, fifth-seeded German Sabine Lisicki breezed past Italy's Alberta Brianti, 6-1, 6-2, and eighth seed Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania got by Argentina's Gisela Dulko, 6-4, 6-3.

There was one remaining first-round match, and that went to French qualifier Aravane Rezai over Slovakia's Magdalena Rybarikova, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

This week's winner will collect $37,000.
