Connor Frizzelle hit five 3-pointers and scored a career-high 25 points and Arsalan Kazemi had 11 points and a career-high 19 rebounds as Rice held off Tulane 71-61 on Wednesday night.

Tied at halftime, the Owls (11-11, 3-5 Conference USA) shot 61.9 percent from the field (13 of 21) and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line (11 of 12) in the second half to beat the Green Wave for the first time in nine tries.

Tamir Jackson added 20 points for Rice, which has won three of its last four while Tulane (12-9, 2-6) has lost six straight after a six-game winning streak.

The Green Wave led 31-25 with 1:06 to go before halftime, but the Owls closed out the period on a 6-0 run and opened the second half with a 7-0 spurt.

Tied for the seventh time at 53 with 7:32 left, Rice went on a 9-2 run.

Kendall Timmons scored 21 to lead Tulane, which was 5 of 23 from 3-point range.
