Frankie Edgar wants to stay busy rather than sit on the sidelines waiting for either Jose Aldo or Conor McGregor so he's asking to fight on the upcoming 'Ultimate Fighter' Finale on Dec. 11.
With Aldo and McGregor set to do battle on Dec. 12 as the main event for UFC 194, Edgar has been itching to book another fight for this year and then hopefully fight for the featherweight title in early 2016.
Edgar last fought in May, when he won a unanimous decision over Urijah Faber for his fourth straight victory in the division.
On Sunday night, Edgar heard his name mentioned by main-event winner Max Holloway as a potential opponent and that came just days after top 10 ranked featherweight Jeremy Stephens took to Twitter to ask for a fight against the former lightweight champion.
Edgar is on board with either idea and from the sound of things he'd like the headline 'The Ultimate Fighter' Finale in December.
Currently, the card on Dec. 11 does not have a headliner so booking a matchup between Edgar and either Holloway or Stephens would make sense for a five-round bout on that particular show.
Lightweights Khabib Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson are already set to face off on the same night, but UFC officials have stated that will not be the main event and another headliner would soon join them instead.
A matchup between Edgar and Holloway could be the perfect bout to find a new No. 1 contender to face the winner of the UFC 194 main event one night later. If the UFC opts to go in another direction, Stephens is a crafty veteran with a ton of experience to test Edgar in a main-event fight.
Edgar's placement in the main event could also allow the New Jersey native the chance to prepare for a five-round bout and just in case disaster strikes, he could step in to face either Aldo or McGregor at UFC 194 as well. The last time the bout was scheduled, Aldo pulled out due to a rib injury just two weeks ahead of the show and it left the UFC in a precarious position to ask Chad Mendes to accept a fight with McGregor on short notice.
Edgar is a great backup plan and if he's already booked for a main event, there's no chance he wouldn't be ready for either Aldo or McGregor if he got the call.
Now it's up to the UFC to decide if they want to book Edgar versus either Holloway or Stephens on Dec. 11.
