Former Miami Dolphins executive Eddie Jones passed away on Wednesday morning. He was 74 years old.

Jones joined the Dolphins organization in 1988 as vice president of administration and finance before being named the team's executive vice president and general manager in 1990.

He was promoted to the role of team president in 1996 and served in that capacity until his retirement following the 2005 season.

"I really appreciate all Eddie did for me and the Dolphins during the time we were together," Hall of Fame coach Don Shula said. "I can't say enough about his support of the football team. I've always felt teamwork in all phases of the operation was the key to building a winning team, and Eddie Jones was the consummate team player."

Prior to joining the Dolphins, Jones served as president and chief operating officer for the New Orleans Saints from 1982-85. He began his NFL career in 1968 as business manager of the Saints.
